Background
|
Our client is a well-recognised R&D-based healthcare company and a world leader in several major areas of biopharmaceutical therapeutics. This new position reports to the Senior Vice President of Biopharmaceuticals Research, and has been created to direct the company's existing commitment to inflammation R&D, expanding the work as appropriate and bringing projects through to the point of proof-of-principle.

The Job
|
The Scientific Vive President (ScVP)is responsible for developing the strategy for the Inflammation area and for all Inflammation projects until clinical proof-of-principle has been achieved.
The ScVP is a member of the biopharmaceuticals management team and the Biopharmaceuticals Research Board. All inflammation project team leaders report functionally to the ScVP; initially there will be 5-6 or so reporting, increasing to 8-10 according to programme needs.
The ScVP represents biopharmaceuticals research towards external stakeholders (scientific and governmental) on a case-by-case basis in matters relating to the biopharmaceutical portfolio. Together with the VP of Sourcing, he/she identifies and prioritises drug candidates for in-licensing. He/she will play a major role in existing collaborations with biotech companies and academic institutions, and be responsible for active use of relevant internal and external sources of information and expertise, including building and leveraging strong external networks.

Candidate Requirements
|
The ideal candidate will be a graduate in medical, pharmaceutical, chemical or biological sciences, with a higher research degree in the inflammation area, and must also have: • A demonstrated record (through peer-reviewed publications, presentations, speaking invitations, etc.) of high-level scientific achievement in immunology and inflammation research. • Experience of setting up and leading multidisciplinary teams. • Proven success within industry in developing and leading drug discovery programs involving protein-based therapies. • A good understanding of the pharmaceutical industry with respect to the discovery and development of new drugs. • A track record of delivering viable therapeutic drug candidates.
He/she must be an inspirational leader with vision and focus. The ability to enthuse and motivate his/her project teams, and high-calibre communication skills, with fluency in spoken and written English, are also essential personal attributes.
